Usage Note 20361: Xythos and SAS® Metadata Repository backups must be synchronized for
SAS® Marketing Automation or data might become corrupted
In order to successfully back up the metadata for SAS Marketing Automation, the Xythos and SAS Metadata Repository backups must be synchronized. If they are not,
the metadata objects for SAS Marketing Automation will be corrupted and unusable.
To create synchronized backups:
- Pause or stop the SAS® Metadata Server.
- Stop the Xythos server.
- Create the Xythos backup. The Xythos architecture
uses a relational database and file system, and both components must be backed up.
The backup-and-recovery strategy that you implement depends on the number of document stores that are being used and whether external storage is enabled.
For information about backup and recovery of Xythos,
see the Database Recovery Guide, which is provided in one of the files that is included
in the bundle when you install Xythos.
Depending on your version of Xythos, the file can be found in one of the following
directory paths:
- WFS 4.0: xythos_home/wfs-4.0.x/doc/wfs_dbrecovery.html
- WFS 4.1: xythos_home/wfs-4.1.x/doc/en/wfs_admin.html#_DB_Recovery
- WFS 4.2: xythos_home/wfs-4.2.x/doc/en/wfs_admin_file_system.html#_backup_restore
- Create the SAS Metadata Repository backup.
At this point you might want to use the REORG and RUNANALYSIS options.
For information about these options, see
"Planning SAS Metadata Server Backups and Restores" in the
SAS® 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform: System Administration Guide
.
- Restart Xythos.
- Restart the SAS Metadata Server.
To ensure that your backup procedures result in uncorrupted SAS Marketing Automation metadata, test the recovery process at least once.
To test the recovery process:
- Stop both servers.
- Restore the Xythos backup.
- Restore the SAS Metadata Repository backup.
- Restart the servers.
- Attempt to open and use previously saved campaigns.
